[ Summary ] Enteropathy-associated T-cell lymphoma (EATL) is uncommon worldwide. However it is a typical primary disorder of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract in some locations, especially in Europe. Two main types of EATL are classified. One is composed of CD8-, CD56-negative CD30-positive large cell lymphoma (type I). The other is CD56-positive and CD8-postive or negative medium-sized lymphoma (type II). About 80 % of European cases exhibit type I EATL. In Japan, typeⅠ EATL is seldom seen because of the rare incidence of Coeliac disease. The type II group is mainly found in conjunction with intestinal T/NK cell lymphoma. Although gastric or colorectal lesions concurrently complicate in cases of EATL, primary gastric or colorectal EATL is infrequent. Nasal type NK cell lymphoma with EBV infection is occasionally reported in the intestine or colon, but seldom in the stomach. Adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATL/L) frequently invades the GI tract. Careful immunohistological and genetic studies are required in diagnosis of primary GI tract T/NK cell lymphoma.
