[ Summary ] Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is the gold standard technique for performing en block resection of large superficial tumors in the gastrointestinal tract. Esophageal, gastric and colorectal ESD techniques have become popular procedures in Japan.
However, ESD of all organs is technically demanding and the learning curve is steep. It is vital to prevent declines in clinical outcomes during the introductory period. Establishment of adequate training systems is essential to make ESD a reliable treatment option for gastrointestinal neoplasms. We describe our training system for esophageal, gastric and colorectal ESD. Our training system for ESD may help in the dissemination of this procedure.
