[ Summary ] Quality control in medical practice is increasingly emphasized world wide. Objective evaluation of endoscopic education is very important. Education concerning colonoscopy, using endoscopic databases, in our medical center and quality control of endoscopy are presented.
Cecal intubation rates, cecal intubation time and polyp detection rates obtained from endoscopic databases can provide valid parameters to evaluate the efficacy of education for colonoscopy by surgical residents as well as to assess the quality of colonoscopy.
Proper utilization of endoscopic databases has the potential to aid the evaluation of endoscopic competency more objectively, and to contribute to evaluations of quality control in endoscopy units.
