[ Summary ] Over 30 % of physicians (in Japan) are women. The social mission of female physicians has increased. It is a social problem for female physicians who must leave their jobs because of child birth, child care and other life events. At Tokyo Womenʼs Medical University, a Professional Reentry Support Center for female physician was established in November 2006. Medical educational programs using elearning and a reappointment support project have been established. Eight female physicians have enrolled in the retraining course for digestive endoscopy. Subsequently, students returned to work at medical clinics, One physician was certificated as a fellow of the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society. Capable female physicians must be considered precious medical resources. Female physicians should be made aware of their responsibilities within the medical community, and to continue their medical careers. A supporting policy, for various labor systems should be provided for female physicians.
