| [ Summary ] | Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) is a minimally invasive treatment for early gastrointestinal neoplasia. This technique has been used as the conventional treatment for esophageal cancer. Recently, endoscopic techniques have progressed rapidly. Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is a new endoscopic technique for en bloc resection of early neoplastic lesions in the gastrointestinal tract. Using this method, histological examination can be performed more precisely, and we can decide on the necessity of additional treatment such as chemotherapy, radiation or surgery. This results in a decrease in local recurrence or lymph node metastasis. |
