[ Summary ] |
Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare disease characterized by hemangioma of the skin and gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Since GI hemangioma often causes severe GI bleeding, it usually requires treatment. The primary procedures for GI hemangioma are surgical resection and endoscopic treatment. Because endoscopic treatment is safe and non-invasive, treatment is now performed for GI hemangioma. For endoscopic treatment of GI hemangioma with BRBNS, we recommend endoscopic sclerotherapy with polidocanol. This is because sclerotherapy with polidocanol is a safe and effective treatment. Another reason is that sclerothearpy is also relatively easy to use, when ballon endoscopy is performed. |
