[ Summary ] |
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is closely linked to chronic viral hepatitis and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. Recently, the number of HCC patients without viral hepatitis has increased. HBV-related HCC is related to the integration of a viral genome into a host genome, transactivation of the host viral genome by HBx and HBV-induced chromosomal instability. HCV-related HCC is related to genetic and epigenetic changes presumably caused by oxidative stress and steatohepatitis caused by the HCV core proteins localized in the hepatocyte mitochondria. |
