[ Summary ] Liver injury due to health foods is increasing yearly. There is danger in not recognizing liver dysfunction related to these causes. The charasteristics of liver injury due to health foods are as follows, (1) medication periods are longer, (2) cytotoxic types are dominant, (3) DLST positive rates are much higher than those of other drug-induced liver injuries. Patients with liver disease frequently consume health foods without consultation with their primary physician. It is easer to diagnose the cause of liver dysfunction by asking questions concerning health food intake of outpatients with liver disease. Opportunities to offer information concerning liver diseases such as liver disease seminars, individual nutrition guidance programs, and nutrition support teams is necessary for patients.
