[ Summary ] The "International Consensus Guidelines for Management of Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasms and Mucinous Cystic Neoplasms of the Pancreas", was published in 2006. In this guideline, surgical resection is recommended for all main duct type IPMNs and branch duct type IPMNs which meet any one of the following criteria ; size of cystic branches >3cm, presence of mural nodules, dilated main duct (>6mm), or positive cytology. In regard to the diagnosis of MCN, histological affirmation of ovarian-type stroma is mandatory, and surgery is indicated for all cases. In this article, we outline the guideline and issues which should be discussed for future revisions.
