[ Summary ] |
Barium-contrast radiography for the jejunum and the ileum is useful for diagnosis of carcinomas and Meckel's diverculosis. However, it is difficult to diagnose mid-gastrointestinal bleeding. Recently, capsule endoscopy, double-balloon endoscopy and single-balloon endoscopy has beendeveloped. These procedures have made it possible to examine the entire small intestine and to detect obscure gastrointestinal bleeding, vascular lesions, polyposis syndrome, carcinomas and inflammatory bowel disease. Balloon endoscopy is useful to monitor hemostasis, while complementary examination with capsule endoscopy and balloon endoscopy makes it possible to diagnose obscure gastrointestinal bleeding. |
