[ Summary ] The uses of diagnostic tools for the treatment of gastrointestinal stromal tumors are differential diagnosis, prognostic risk evaluation, diagnosis of metastasis or recurrence and treatment evaluation. In this study, 26 patients with stomach GISTs were enrolled. The relationship between their FDG uptake and the proliferating cell nuclear antigen index or mitotic counts was investigated.Surgical specimens, and in the results they revealed displayed significant relationships. The differential diagnosis of high risk groups was possible using a newly proposed index SUV >= 6.0. It was concluded that FDG-PET imaging was useful for the evaluation of GIST, especially for prognostic risk evaluation of minute tumors.
