[ Summary ] PET imaging is a useful modality for the diagnosis of colorectal cancer. The superiority of PET has been illustrated for preoperative staging. Staging of 10 - 20% of cancer cases was reportedly modified by use of PET. PET also exhibits good performance in the detection of local recurrence of rectal cancer, compared to CTs and MRIs. However, detection of lesions smaller than 1 cm is difficult even with PET Accumulation of FDG in the urinary tract and bowels sometimes interferes with diagnosis. It should also be noted that the potential of other diagnostic modalities is improving rapidly. Doctors should understand the limitations and characteristics of various modalities.
