[ Summary ] The incidence of colonic diverticulosis has increased in Japan, possibly due to changes in lifestyles and diets. Although colonic diverticulosis is usually asymptomatic and rarely becomes hemorrhagic, it results in a serious prognosis in some patients. We reported that non aspirin nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NANSAID) use, aspirin use, and hypertension are independent risk factors for colonic diverticular hemorrhage. In addition, aspirin use was related to severe diverticular hemorrhage requiring blood transfusion. It should be better to avoid NSAID use in patients with colonic diverticulosis as much as possible.
