[ Summary ] There are various dyeing methods used for esophageal diagnosis, such as employing Iodine solutions. They may be used for early esophageal cancer detection or detection of the cancer margins. Toluidin blue and the double dyeing methods may be used for determining the depth of cancer invasion and differentiating benign erosive lesions from malignat ones. Indigocarmine is used for producing contrast in observation of Barret's esophagus. Methylene blue is used for detection of specialized columnar epithelia and crystal violet is used to detect of pit patterns.
