[ Summary ] Autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) is a unique form of chronic pancreatitis characterized by high serum IgG4 concentrations and histological features such as those observed with lymphoplasmacytic sclerosing pancreatitis (LPSP) and abundant IgG4-bearing plasma cell infiltration. AIP has been reported to be associated with a variety of extra-pancreatic lesions including lachrymal and salivary glands, bile duct, pulmonary hilar lymph nodes, retroperitoneal lesions and prostate. Therefore, AIP should be recognized as a systemic inflammatory disease.
