[ Summary ] Cirrhosis, resulting from hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, is a leading indication for living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) among adults in Japan. One of the hottest debates on this subject is how to overcome recurrent HCV after LDLT. Treatment of recurrent HCV disease has generally consisted of peg-interferon and ribavirin. Due to the side effects, its preoperative use is limited to those with good liver function reserves. At the present time, preemptive treatment studies have not been conducted, while studies on established disease have been widely performed.
