[ Summary ] Insulin resistance (IR) is an integral part of the pathophysiology of most patients with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). The significant association of NASH with IR and metabolic syndromes provide a rational basis for treatment with weight-reducing programs and / or insulin sensitizing agents. Nutritional treatment, either by dietary prescription or through nutritional counseling, and exercise therapies appear to remain the primary therapies along with drug therapy. The close associations between NASH and type 2 diabetes have led to the use of insulin-sensitizing agents in patients with type 2 diabetes. Here, we have focused on the three most promising types of insulin sensitizers for the treatment of NASH.
