[ Summary ] Mesenchymal tumors of the digestive system are often found incidentally through endoscopy or ultrasonography. Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are those most commonly found. Molecular target therapy, using imatinib, is effective for patients with metastatic or unresectable GISTs. Therefore, accurate diagnosis for GISTs is essential. Immonohistochemical staining, using appropriate antibodies including KIT, is required for differential diagnosis of gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumors.
