[ Summary ] Methods for endoscopic treatment of tumors of the digestive tract are steadily developing. However, these methods require a great deal of skill to be performed safely. The use of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) has made it possible to remove large gastric tumors en bloc, and to achieve precise pathologic diagnoses. Sophisticated ESD techniques for handling the endoscope and forceps are required.
The trainer for endoscopic treatment was developed to enable physicians to acquire these techniques out of clinical settings. This trainer has made it possible for physicians to acquire techniques efficiently, and has made practice easy.
In our hospital, three stages of practice, (understanding, training and progress) in safe ESD operation were taught, using this trainer. This practice method was useful in acquiring greater ESD skills. Over 500 gastric tumors were operated on with ESD without any perforations occuring.
The trainer for the implementation of endoscopic treatment will efficiently produce many skilled doctors.
