[ Summary ] In 1979, PEG was developed by Gauderer, Ponsky et al. The main technical points are to insert a catheter into the stomach through the abdominal wall and the gastric wall and to cover the catheter with a firm tissue. By using fixing materials, firm adhesion around the fistel may be obtained. The method is classified into three types (pull, push and introducer methods). There are no significant differences between pull and push methods. The merits of the introducer method are one insertion of the endoscope and that catheter is not passed through the oral cavity.
