[ Summary ] The Endo-Cytoscopy System is a from of super-high-magnification endoscopy system which provides in vivo cellular-level imaging during endoscopy. The Endo-Cytoscopy System achieves 1,100 x maximum magnification on a 14-inch monitor, and the field of view and depth of field from the end of the objective optical system is 120 x 120 μm and 0-a few μm. The principal behind this imaging is that the diffused light within the tissue is absorbed by epithelial cells which are dye sprayed, which leads to enhanced absorption images. The image quality and color reproducibility produced by the Endo-Cytoscopy System is at the same level as that of conventional endoscopy. Two types of prototype have been manufactured. One is the “probe type”, which is used by inserting into the instrumental channel of the endoscope. The other is the “integrated typescope”, which is equiped with cellular imaging tools at the tip of the magnifying-endoscope.
