[ Summary ] Proton-pump inhibitors (PPI) and H2-receptor antagonists (H2RA) are reported to enhance H. pylori eradication rates with antimicrobials. It is thought that a new triple therapy with PPIs is the most effective regimen. Therefore, PPIs are widely used for H. pylori eradication. Both PPIs and H2RAs have similar effects on adjuvants on H. pylori triple therapy, although PPI has a stronger effect on gastric acid surpression and lower MIC for bacteria. We may possibly substitute H2RA for PPI. However the current trend is for eradication treatment is to use PPI based triple therapies.
