[ Summary ] The comparison of the pharmacokinetics and clinical effects of histamine H2 receptor antagonists (H2RA) and proton pump inhibitors (PPI) is summarized. Although the clinical effects of PPIs differ according to their dependency on CYP2C in the liver, tolerance is not observed with coutinuous use. Although H2RA creates rapid effects, dosages should be reduced in cases of renal failure and when continuous usage induces tolerance. We should find different uses for H2RA and PPI with increased understanding of these charanteristics.
