[ Summary ] For the diagnosis of abdominal pain in children, plain radiographs are often nonspecific but are extremely useful in identifying ingested foreign bodies, adynamic ileus, intestinal obstructions, pathologic calcification and large masses. Single and double contrast esophagograms, small intestinal series and barium enemas are especially useful in patients with suspected mucosal lesions such as those caused by inflammatory bowel disease, polyposis, esophageal strictures or gastroesophageal reflux. For therapeutic procedures, hydrostatic reduction of ileocolic intussusception under fluoroscopic control must be done immediately.
