[ Summary ] Therapeutic strategy against metastatic brain tumors has been greatly changed since the introduction of stereotactic radiation therapy such as gamma knife and stereotactic linac. Operative indication has decreased because stereotactic radiation therapy can replace brain surgery in terms of outcome. Moreover, stereotactic radiation therapy can treat deep-seated lesions which cannot be accessed surgically. However, metastatic brain tumors still have surgical indication because stereotactic radiation therapy cannot treat large tumors sized 3 cm in diameter or more. Therapeutic strategy against multiple metastatic lesions has also been changed since stereotactic radiation therapy can treat each of multiple lesions rather than whole brain irradiation. I discussed recent therapeutic strategy against metastatic brain tumors.
