| [ Summary ] | Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) has become a popular procedure in Japan, and many endoscopists are trying to resect lesions with this technique, even if they are colonic lesions. ESD is a wonderful technique, enabling us to resect whole lesions in an en-bloc fashion, but it involves certain risks of bleeding and perforation. We experienced 2 (1.2 %) post-operative bleeding cases and 9 (5.5 %) cases of perforation. Fortunately, we successfully followed up with conservative therapy without any surgical treatment. Good positioning and maneuverability of the scope are essential for safe and reliable ESD. We should perform ESD very carefully with sufficient knowledge about the features of devices and the electrosurgical unit. | |
