[ Summary ] We performed intraductal ultrasonography (IDUS) and 3D-IDUS for extrahepatic bile duct cancer on 13 patients. We compared tumor extensions using T (NM) classification of UICC. We obtained radial images, 3D-IDUS and a dual plane reconstruction (DPR) images with 3D-IDUS. A DPR image is the combination of a radial image and a linear image. We compared the accuracy of tumor extension observation by using 3D-IDUS with IDUS. The accuracy of IDUS was 61.5 %, and that of 3D-IDUS was 76.9 %, higher than IDUS.
We were able to produce comprehensive images using DPR images, therefore the accuracy of 3D-IDUS has improud. 3D-IDUS will become a standardized method in the near future. The increased development of these instruments is necessary for microlevel diagnosis.
