[ Summary ] |
We reviewed current applications and perspectives for use on endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS)-based diagnosis for pancreatobiliary tumors. EUS is highly useful in the diagnosis of tumor presence, and the diagnosis of depth of tumor invasion with gall bladder tumors. EUS is also feasible for determining tumor origins and diagnosis of longitudinal extension of biliary tumors, accessment of tumor extension of papillary tumors, diagnosis of tumor presence and differential diagnosis of pancreatic tumors. For bile duct cancer and papillary tumors, we recommend performing intraductal ultrasonography in addition to EUS for accessment the tumor extension. While the application of EUS guided-fine needle aspiration has been remarkably extended from diagnosis to treatment, precise indications and problem of dissemination are still controversial. |
