[ Summary ] Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection, a chronic and continuous infection, induces the chronic inflammation and strong immune responses. Therefore, relationships between extra-intestinal diseases and H. pylori infection have been reported. Atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease, and diabetes mellitus have been observed to have weak relationships with H. pylori infection. In some of the patients with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, chronic urticaria, and hepatic encepahlopathy, the eradication of H. pylori can induce improvements in symptoms. The cure of H. pylori infection is one of the most important therapies in the above disease. The relationships with Guillain-Barre syndrome, primary biliary cirrhosis, and primary sclerosing cholangitis, require the continued investigation.
