[ Summary ] Recently, various problems after eradication of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) have been reported, such as the development of reflux esophagitis, increases in clarithromycin resistance to H. pylori, and the occurrence of gastric cancer and obesity.
The presence of hiatal hernias and corpus gastritis are closely related to the development of reflux esophagitis after eradication of H. pylori. Therefore, full informed consent by patients is needed before eradication of H. pylori. Because it is rare for reflux esophagitis, which develops after eradication of H. pylori, to become severe and cause longterm reflux symptoms, it rarely becomes a longterm clinical problem among patients who complete therapy successfully. Further study needs to be done on the development of Barrett's mucosa, which may be a cause of esophageal adenocarcinoma.
