[ Summary ] To cover the health insurance costs for treating chronic gastritis, there are several problems, as follows; (1) Diagnos is tends to depend on the complaints of patients. Therefore, this condition is diagnosed as chronic gastritis when there are no endoscopical findings. The initiation and termination of medication can be determined by patient complaints. (2) Chronic gastritis includes endoscope and histologically diagnosed chronic gastritis, not needing medication. (3) Diagnosis of chronic gastritis may be used to mask the strong effects on the stomach by the antibiotic medicines and NSAIDs, resulting in a diagnosis of chronic gastritis, in order to have treatment be covered by health insurance. This is because in Japan a diagnosis is strictly required in order to do perform diagnostic examinations and prescribe medications.
The above listed problems are causing difficulties with medical treatments for chronic gastritis covered by health insurance.
