[ Summary ] The Japanese edition of the MST (Minimal Standard Terminology) for electronic recording of gastrointestinal endoscopic examination and treatment was published in 2001 by The Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society. In this paper, the methods of recording endoscopic findingds for gastritis through the use of MST were explained. It is impossible to find the term "acute gastritis" and "chronic gastritis" in the MST. The term "Gastropathy" or "Gastric mucosal atrophy" is used instead. The major problem with the MST is that unfamiliar terms are used for recording endoscopic gastritis findings. Endoscopic photos, explaining these unfamiliar terms should accompany the newer version of the MST.
