[ Summary ] A result of the debate at the Consensus Meeting at 20th Congress of The Japan Society of Colon Examination about the concept of a "clean colon", which is the basis of clinical management of colorectal polyps, was presented. At the meeting, a consensus on the definition of a "clean colon" being cases where no polyps were found after two consecutive total colonoscopies.
Some people are of the opinion that a "clean colon" is one where no polyps are found with magnifying colonoscopy or by the dye spraying method, with which the author agrees. However, using surveillance plans which disregard small polyps is reasonable and an important method to extend intervals of surveillance.
