[ Summary ] Various types of polyps are found in the large bowel. With improvements endoscopic devices and with the developmet in techniques for endoscopic polypectomy, the number of polyps resected via endoscopy without hospital admission has been increasing. We have performed 2,690 outpatient colorectal polypectomy cases over the past 15 years. The rate of complications (perforations or delayed bleeding) was only 0.6%. We are of the opinion that endoscopic day surgery (EDS) on the large bowel reduced the need for hospital admission and can provide early therapeutic intervention at a low cost, with minimal facilities. In this article, we have described the indications for EDS from the viewpoint of general physicians.
