[ Summary ] There are many kinds of microbial infections, which are associated with carcinogenesis in human beings. In case of gastric cancer, the Epstein-barr virus and Helicobacter pylori are considered to be related to this condition. Recently, Streptococcus anginosus has been detected in cancerous gastric and esophageal tissue. While various viruses and bacteria may be associated with carcinogenesis, fungi and parasites are not clearly involved in development of gastric or esophagealcancer.
