[ Summary ] The mucosa of the remnant stomach after surgery is considered to be at high risk. Many studies have indicated that bile (alkaline) reflux is a causative factor of stump cancer after distal gastrectomy for peptic ulcers. At present, the number of remnant-stump cancers after gastrectomy for early gastric cancer is increasing. These cancers are considered to be related to the metachronous development of multiple gastric cancers. Patients having chronic active gastritis, caused by H.pylori infection, may be at high risk for remnant cancer.
