[ Summary ] Unless Helicobacter pylori irradication therapy is applied, proton-pump-inhibitors (PPI) should be used as the first line of therapy for gastric ulcers. When PPI cannot be used, H2-receptor-antagonists, muscarine-receptor-antagonists, or some mucosal defensive agents, such as sucralfate, misoprostol, or enprostil may be prescribed. Since the evidence of gastric ulcer healing effects with other mucosal defensive agents, except sucralfate, misoprostol, or enprostil has not been described clearly, their prescription is not recommended at present. Since evidence about combination therapy with a gastric acid inhibitors and a mucosal defensive agent has not been fully compiled, it is not strongly recommended at present.
