[ Summary ] In this article we reveiw recent randomized controlled trials that evaluate the effects of antisecretory therapy and the periods of fasting necessary after bleeding and effects on recurrent bleeding in patients with endoscopically documented bleeding gastric ulcers. Antisecretory therapy is effective for the prevention of recurrent bleeding and patients should undergo controlled fasting for at least three days after bleeding, because the risk of recurrence is greatest within the first three days. In addition, eradication therapy for H.pylori infection is effective for the prevention of recurrence of gastric ulcers and this therapy is recommended for H.pylori-positive patients with bleeding gastric ulcers.
