[ Summary ] Meta-analysis synthesizes estimates of efficacy, such as risk ratios, odds ratios, and rate differences, from a number of studies. As a result, the effect size improved by overcoming inconsistencies or differences among studies and more reliable estimates of efficacy are available with a 95% confidence intervals. Meta-analyses of gastric ulcer treatment have been reported in many papers. Meta-analysis has confirmed that H.pylori eradication leads to better healing rates and lower recurrence rates of gastric ulcers than without eradication. When therapy for H.pylori eradication is not applicable, proton pump inhibitors provide better healing rates than H2 antagonists. For patients receiving NSAIDs, misoprostol or proton pump inhibitors reduce the risk of gastric ulcers.
