[ Summary ] | We introduced an in-home support system, usingvideophone for thirty four cases. Our system consists of the ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) type videophones and WCDMA (Wideband Code Devision Multiple Access) type cellphones. The usefulness of the videophone system is summarized below, a) The videophone system contributes to patients smooth transition to life at home and can help them to cope with emergencies occurring at their homes. b) Communication with a doctor or a nurse, using the videophone system, relieves the patient of worry at home, as well as his/her family. c) The videophone system shortens the hospitalization period, and enables the patient to remain home in terminal situations. d) The videophone system increases cooperation between the medical staff members and reduces the load on medical personel. Network systems and information technology, including videophones, may contribute to in-home medical care for cancer patients. |
