[ Summary ] Drug-induced NASH is a relatively uncommon form of drug-induced liver disease. Tamoxifen and amiodarone are considered to be drugs which actually cause NASH through a direct hepatotoxic mecahnism, involving mitochondrial injury. Corticosteroids, tamoxifen, and estrogens may precipitate NASH in predosposed persons by exacerbating insulin resistance, central obesity, diabetes, and hypertriglyseridemia. As liver cirrhosis induced by tamoxifen, amiodarone, or nifedipine has been reported, we need to be watchful for the occurrence of and need for treatment of steatosis and NASH during the use of these drugs.
