The important objective of risk management in medical fields is to control potential risks, inevitable in medical treatment and to secure the safety of patients. It is particularly important in examinations of the pancreato-biliary region to carry out risk management with a full awareness of its significance. Actual risk management deals with a wide variety of problems such as informed consent, complications, infections, safety of medical staff, medical cost, law-suits etc. These problems cannot be managed by doctors alone, but must be controlled by the entire hospital staff, namely nurses, endoscopists, pharmacists and medical clerks. All the institution and further all the institutions throughout Japan must be aware of the importance of risk management and make efforts to improve it. |
