[ Summary ] |
We assessed the sensitivity of pathologic and genetic diagnosis in patients with cholangiocarcinomas. The sensitivity of bile aspiration pathology, brushing cytology and biopsies, and genetic analysis by K-ras, p53, telomerase and hTERT was approximately 50%. However, recent progress in new devices and molecular biology may lead to the sensitivity of each method being raised. Moreover, we hope that pathologic and genetic diagnoses will be taken one step further for patients with poorly prognostic cholangiocarcinomas. |
