[ Summary ] |
In the performance of clinical oncology for the bile duct system, general pathologists are often called on to treat early precancerous and cancerous lesions. In this paper, we summarized the pathological characteristics of cancer occurring in the extrahepatic bile duct, the gallbladder and the papilla Vater, and also discussed general opinions about early and precancerous lesions, with a presentation of the cases examined. Complicated lesions with anomalous arrangements in the pancreatobiliary duct system may suggest carcinogenesis in this area. The general rule in Japan for cancer of the extrahepatic duct system seems to be based on advanced cancer, now however, a new histological classification based on early stage cancer, as well as precancerous lesions, may soon be recommended. |
