[ Summary ] Recently the indications for laparoscopic splenectomy (LS) have been extended to include patients with various diseases. LS is the standard operation for ITP and AIHA. However, it's use for treating large splenomegalies or hypersplenism, concomitant with portal hypertention, is still controversial. However, this operation has become a more feasible and safer method through the use of new technologies, such as an autosuturing device, harmonic scalpels, morcellators, etc. In the near future, indications for LS will be extended, together with the development of new devices.
