| [ Summary ] | The current status of laparoscopic surgery and its indications for colorectal diseases are described. The non-perforating type of Crohn's disease, with ileal stenosis, is a good indication, however, laparoscopic surgery is also feasible for patients with fistulas, abscess, or recurrent diseases. Laparoscopic restorative proctocolectomy is feasible as elective surgery for patients with ulcerative colitis after intensive medial treatment. As for malignancy, the indications for advanced cancer remain controversial, however, T1/T2 colon cancer is a good indication. Indications for T3 colon cancer should be determined by the results of randomised controlled trials. Laparoscopic surgery for rectal cancer is feasible, but technically difficult, and therefore should be confined to T1/T2 rectal caner. | |
