[ Summary ] H. pylori infection induces dyspepsia and histological chronic gastritis. However, no clear cut link has been documented between H. pylori and a pathophysiological mechanism in NUD.
Two meta analyses are available on whether eradication therapy for H. pylori improves symptoms of NUD. One reported that H. pylori eradication treatment was superior to placebo in NUD (relative risk reduction 9%). Another meta-analysis reported that the odds ratio for treatment success in NUD with H. pylori eradication therapy, compared with control therapy, was 1.07 to 1.29. These meta-analyses concluded that there should be little support for the use of H. pylori eradication therapy in patients with NUD. In the future, it will be necessary to investigate whether eradication therapy in patients with NUD not only may improve symptoms but also may prevent peptic ulcers and/or gastric cancer.
