[ Summary ] The Japanese Gastric Cancer Association (JGCA) issued their first version of gastric cancer treatment guidelines (GL) in March, 2001, and its version for patients in December, 2001. This version for patients is useful in sharing the treatment option overview with patients. As we Japanese gradually introduce "evidence based medicine" into the treatment regimen for gastric cancer treatment, Japanese patients increasingly want individually tailored medicine. The number of users should be increased to make the most of these guidelines. Not only these guidelines, but also other information on internet websites for patients should be made more readily available.
