[ Summary ] Cancer treatment should be changed following the development of both new drugs and new technology. There for, it is not always easy for doctors to know what the standard treatment for cancer in their practice should be. The Japanese Gastric Cancer Association has published their guideline for the treatment of gastric cancer and their guide book for patients. Many other academic associations should prepare similar guidelines in the near future. Guidelines should be modified following the development of new medical technologies and other scientific advances.
