[ Summary ] Since the discovery of Helicobacter pylori (Hp), the role of inflammatory cytokines in the secretion of gastric acid have been studied. It is highly likely that inflammatory cytokines play important roles, not only in the inflammation of the gastric mucosa, but also in the mechanisms of acid secretion. One of those cytokines, interleukin-1, increases in the gastric mucosa with Hp infection, and known to have an inhibitory action on the secretion of gastric acid. In this paper, the details of the mechanism for the action of IL-1Beta were discussed. Recently, we demonstrated that IL-8 increase tetragastrin-stimulated acid secretion, and elucidated its mechanism for IL-8 action. In this paper, the action of IL-8 on acid secretion was discussed according to our recent results. As described in this paper, a new understanding of the mechanism for the secretion of gastric acid is needed. A new map of the mechanism should recognize inflammatory cytokines as important factors and should take into account that there is a new mechanism, consisting of the three aspects neurology, immunology, and endocrinology.
